Auctions Wrap – 27th April 2015

“A decline in popularity of ANZAC Day auctions led to a low number of auctions over the ANZAC Day Saturday.”

A slow saturday as the nation remembers its fallen.

It would appear that agents heeded calls to refrain from conducting auctions on the ANZAC Day weekend, with only 155 auctions listened in the nation’s key markets. The figure represents a significant drop compared to the 744 listings in the Saturday following the Friday ANZAC Day in 2014.

Melbourne recorded the highest number of listings, with 92 auctions. Sydney followed with 50 listings, while Canberra, Brisbane and Adelaide registered a total of 20 listings.

Last Saturday’s numbers were below the 189 listings recorded in the 2009 ANZAC Day Saturday, hinting that the popularity of Saturday ANZAC Day auctions is waning. Therefore, agents may wish to schedule their auctions away from the next ANZAC Day Saturday… in 2020.
